One thing a person must keep in mind when opting for this step is to forget what other people are opting for when furnishing their homes and concentrate on personal needs, tastes and obviously budget. itchen is by far one of the most complicated rooms to treat due to the various aspects one must consider before thinking of opting for a new one. One of the initial steps that have to be taken before going around to see kitchens in various showrooms is to surf the internet and go through various catalogues to take note of various design ideas. This will help the person to have a clear idea of what style of kitchen and what design features to incorporate when making the initial kitchen design.

Obviously one has to decide what sort of kitchen layout best fits in the space available. Sometimes, there are no choices due to having some wall restrictions. The below are the basic kitchen layouts one can opt for;

The U-Shaped Kitchen

The L-Shaped Kitchen

The Island Option

The G-Shaped Kitchen

The Corridor/Galley Kitchen

The Single Wall/Pullman Kitchen

Obviously setting out the kitchen layout is the most important stage. This stage involves going through what tastes the person has and what sort of design features the person would like to be included in the kitchen design. Consultation with a kitchen designer is eventually the key to have a good end result.

Setting out a layout of the kitchen doesn’t stand nowhere on its own. One must take into consideration what is the best material to opt for and even what colour/s to choose.

Various kitchen cabinet door materials from where one can choose from are listed below;

Laminate

Polymeric Laminate

High Density Fibreboard (HDF)

Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF)

Veneered

Solid Wood

Tempered Glass

Furthermore, carcass material is mainly made of  melamine or laminate material.

After finalising the first kitchen layout and deciding for which material to go for one must also consider the type of worktop to be chosen. The below are the options available;

Hard Wood

Granite

Corian

Solid Surface

Quartz

Laminate

Each and every kitchen must obviously be equipped with appliances. These make the kitchen function and opting for good quality appliances can help the kitchen function well. Gaurantee, energy efficiency, brand reliability, etc. These are all important aspects one needs to consider before opting for a particular brand of appliances.

Main Bedroom

The main bedroom does not only represent a simple room where a person just sleeps. It must be considered a room that boosts a person for the next day. That is why it must be given a great importance in its design. Like all the other rooms it is important to go through various design ideas to see what style are we eventually after. Normally a person opting for a bedroom is also after storage space. Therefore, the main bedroom’s design must be based on the below principles;

Restness

Relation to a person’s character and tastes

Storage

We may think that setting up the main bedroom is only about placing the standard bedroom furniture (bed, wardrobe, bedside tables & chest of drawers) with the walls that make up the room and that is it. Well in reality there is much more to consider. Apart the design idea one must think of the floor space availability that will remain after putting the standard bedroom furniture. Will there be enough space to

put a queen size bed like I always had in mind

Open wardrobe doors

Put a TV cabinet, etc.

Some restrictions may start to arise when considering such things and that’s why one must consider the options to all these restrictions including;

The type of wardrobe that must be chosen (listed below) and the internal setup to accommodate all of the clothes and accessories one could have.

Swing Doors

Folding Doors

Sliding Doors

Walk In

Should the bed have storage space in it? If yes what sort of storage systems are now available? (listed below)

Underneath storage drawers

Hydraulic storage system.

What space is available for the chest of drawers? If there is enough, what sort of chest of drawers would be more ideal for you?

You had in mind to put a TV in your bedroom but you have no space for it? What options are available?

As one can see there may be more aspects to consider than we thought.

Spare Bedroom

If you have a spare bedroom, there are different things to consider when choosing furniture.  The following are some of these items.

First you will need to think about what you want to use the spare bedroom for.  A lot of people use it as a guest room for visitors.  You can think about whether you will want to have a bed in there.  Some people want to have it be able to be utilized as a guest room but do not want a huge bed taking up most of it.  You could then choose a sleeper couch, which can double as seating and as a bed for your guests.  Another idea is to have a daybed.  Still another choice is a futon.

What else might you use it for?  Think about whether you will need a lot of floor space such as if you want a place that you can do floor exercises while working out.  In that case, do not buy a lot of big furniture.  You might want to use it as a computer room.  You can buy a simple desk.  Another idea is to get a computer armoire so that the computer and its equipment can be hidden away, which would be great if your spare bedroom is a multi-purpose room.

You also need to think about how much you want to spend on the furniture for the spare bedroom.  Obviously it will first depend on how much money you actually have.  Think about who will actually see and use the room.  If it is only going to get use once a year when the in-laws come to visit, then you might not want to spend a lot.  If it will constantly be used, then you might spend more.

Also consider who will be using the furniture.  For instance, if it is to be a playroom for your kids at times, then you will want furniture that is safe for them, easy to clean and durable.  If you will have guests that always bring a lot of stuff, then you might want some drawers to accommodate them.  Of course you could also use it as a place to store some of your own extra things and can get furniture to accommodate that.

Consider how all of the different pieces will look together.  You may have it as a multipurpose room (i.e. guest room, computer room, playroom).  Even if they don’t match exactly, you want them to look nice together.

Take your time when looking for furniture for a spare bedroom.  The above tips may help you make this choice.

Living/Sitting Room

The living room is another part in our homes that nowadays people are passing a lot of time in it. One must therefore create a welcoming and comfortable environment in this room. The basic furniture that is included in this room is a wall unit/system, sofa, coffee table and maybe some other furniture like a sideboard but what furniture must a person exactly opt for when furnishing this room?

As in any other room we have to think of the floor space availability that will remain after putting the standard furniture. In doing so one can start to deduct certain pieces of furniture that were originally planned to be introduced. Below are listed the basic things included in this room and some points associated with each of them;

Wall Unit – Although it may seem to be the norm to put a large wall unit this may not be so for some people either because of space restriction or because of tastes. Some people may prefer to put just a simple base unit were only the TV and the decoder are put. On the other hand a person may prefer to put a wall unit. Obviously the setup of a wall unit depends on various things including also whether it is combined with the kitchen and dining section. If so obviously it should have a style and colour which complements those areas. Opting for a brand which does not only have standard compositions will help a lot to have the design and setup which a person may really prefer. The most important thing when setting a wall unit’s layout is to keep the design original, simple and which includes storage so as to store movie cases, music cd’s, books, etc.

Other Furniture – Pieces of furniture that may complement this room are for example a side board, lamp table, book cases, etc.  Nowadays, it is very easy to find that design that you will really like due to the vast selection of brands which are related to this area.

Sofas – The sofa is usually a focal point, the seating area most often used, and, if the wrong choice is made, the source of the most complaint. It’s important to choose the right sofa style and size for your design. You have several choices to explore:

Traditional sofa

Convertible sofa

Loveseat

Divan

Settee

Sectional sofa

Interior Decorating With Rustic Charm

Interior Decorating Themes

If you have ever been to a romantic mountain cabin, or stayed in a hunting or fishing lodge, you may have been surrounded by rustic interior decorating. Whenever you enter a country style home, cottage, or log cabin, beautifully decorated in a rustic theme, you get a sense of warmth and coziness.

I myself, have stayed in a hunting lodge with this very type of decorating style. The walls, ceilings, and floors were all natural wood, mainly pine, with a light coat of a clear finish. The walls were adorned with many trophy buck mounts, all taken from the same areas I hunted.From the furniture to the linens, the whole country theme was relaxing.

Many people who like this decorating style, also need ideas to help them get started. There are several things to consider before you start your project. You will want to be sure to co-ordinate furniture, color, and accessories so that your finished interior suits your taste.

When choosing to go with a rustic theme, you will want to choose your colors very carefully. Natural colors are the choice for that truly rustic feel. Two examples that I have seen are those of knotty pine and cedar walls and ceilings. Both wood types were only covered with a clear dull wood finish. The lighter, natural colors really open up any room. Darker colors and stains can give a room a dreary, closed in feel.

Before you start buying furniture and decorating supplies, go to your local paint center. Choose some pallets that have the same color as your interior walls will be. These are very handy to have when you start choosing furniture and accessories that will compliment your decor.

Now, unless your are decorating from start to finish, old giving your old look a makeover, don’t rush out and replace all of your furniture. You can accessorize what you already own. If you are planning on getting any new furniture, be sure to check out all the log furniture and accessories available. Cabelas, Bass Pro Shops, Gander Mountain, and many other outdoor stores carry these items.

Antler-shed chandeliers, log bunk beds, or a tree trunk coffee or end tables, all make nice additions to the rustic look. Quilts are a nice touch to a country decor. Old homemade quilts are definitely a plus. Don’t worry if Grandma didn’t get into patchwork, most linen stores, as well as supercenters, carry nice country patchwork quilts in a variety of color schemes. Nice color choices for the country look include: country blue, dusty rose, burgandy, and forest green.

There are a number of accessories that can help add warmth, coziness, and rustic charm to your home. Taxidermy mounts are a popular item in most of the country themed homes I know, including my own. Skull mounts are also a nice rustic addition to wall. If the whole idea of dead animals on your walls creeps you out, don’t worry, there are plenty of other items that will give you ideas for rustic country decorating.

Flea markets, antique shops, and sometimes right around your own home, all these places can be a gold mine for finding antiques and other items to use for decorating. Old paintings, clocks, rifles,, and even an old checker board, set up on a small table with two chairs, make nice accessories.

Antique or country style lamps with rustic looking shades can add a warm feel to your living room or bedroom. You can even transform plain neutral color shades into rustic craft project with a little know-how about crafting. Use lower watt, soft white light bulbs for a truly cozy setting.

An old wooden quilt trunk, adorned with a patchwork quilt at the foot of your bed, gives you rustic charm as well as added storage space! The old timey tin milk cans make a good floral or craft arrangement. Wagon wheels and nature paintings can add character to walls.

There are so many things you can find or use to turn your country cottage or home into your very own step back in time.
